Biography
Professor Piardi was born on September 25, 1950, in Milan, Italy. She graduated with distinction from the Faculty of Architecture at Politecnico di Milano in 1975 and subsequently became an architect.

As a member of the Order of Journalists, Professor Piardi began serving as a Professor of Industrial Design at the School of Design, Politecnico di Milano, in 2003. She participated in and guided the establishment of the Interior Design program. From 2005 to 2011, she contributed to the design and leadership of the Master’s program in Naval and Nautical Design, a joint initiative between Politecnico di Milano and the University of Genoa.

In 1999, Politecnico di Milano launched the Master’s program in Yacht Design, with Professor Piardi serving as its Director until 2015.

Although retired, she continues to teach in the Yacht Design program and manages the project studio for thesis work.

She has served as a member of the Academic Committee for the PhD programs in Interior and Exhibition Design and in Design at Politecnico di Milano. Additionally, she has been the Director of the advanced training course Office Design.

From 2011 to 2019, Professor Piardi served as the Head of the Design Department at Politecnico di Milano, concurrently holding positions on the Academic Senate, the Scientific Committee, and the Supervisory Board.

From 2014 to 2017, she was the President of the Italian Universities Design Conference (CUID). As part of the Ministry of University and Research’s Design Working Group, the conference coordinated design research programs nationwide.

As an expert and member of the National Committee for the Ministry of University and Research, Professor Piardi is qualified to evaluate university faculty.

Professor Piardi has completed numerous public and private research projects and was responsible for the “Lecco Innovation Hub” project, which was selected for the 2012 ADI Design Index under the “Business Research” category.

She founded and directs the Design International series at Franco Angeli Editor in Milan. To date, the series has published 15 articles on contemporary design.

In recent years, Professor Piardi has taught the following courses:

·Interior Architecture: 6 ECTS credits; University of Genoa, La Spezia Campus; Year 1 of the Master’s in Naval and Nautical Design (joint program with the University of Genoa).

·Interior Design: Theory and Practice Laboratory; 6 ECTS credits; Year 1 of the Interior Design degree program at the School of Design, Politecnico di Milano.

·Interior Design: 10 ECTS credits; Year 3 of the Interior Design degree program.
She has lectured at universities in Italy and abroad (e.g., New Delhi, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, Reutlingen, Izmir), covering topics such as 
Interior DesignLighting Design, and Yacht Design in master’s programs.

Her teaching and research focus on diverse types of interior design, including residential, office, ship, boat, and urban spaces. She reflects on the intrinsic and extrinsic relationships between people and space in the context of societal innovation.

She also emphasizes the cultural differences among various populations and countries. Through experimental research methods and 1:1 modeling, she evaluates corresponding project teaching.
