The “Radiance of Dunhuang: Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University Exhibition on Dunhuang Art and Design Achievements-Special Presentation” will open at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on December 8, 2025.
The Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, formerly the Central Academy of Arts & Design, is a pivotal cradle of modern art and design in China, boasting a rich legacy of researching and inheriting Dunhuang art. This exhibition, with Dunhuang art as its bridge, showcases the Academy’s decades of systematic achievements in Dunhuang art research, preservation, and contemporary design innovation. It brings together representative works by senior artists such as Pang Xunqin, Lei Guiyuan, Chang Shana, and Chen Hanmin, alongside outstanding creations by current faculty, students, and distinguished alumni including Liu Yuanfeng, Yao Jian, Su Tingting, Zhang Chunjia, Cui Yan, and Bi Ran. Spanning painting, fashion, architecture, posters, sculpture, and virtual art, the exhibits vividly demonstrate the diverse interpretations and innovative vitality of Dunhuang art in a modern context.
During the exhibition, the curatorial team will visit the Harvard Art Museums to engage with experts and scholars on cultural heritage preservation, Dunhuang art research, and artistic design. These dialogues will explore the cultural connotations, contemporary value, and future directions of Dunhuang art.
We anticipate this exhibition will foster cross-cultural and civilizational dialogue, promoting mutual understanding and resonance among diverse cultures. By presenting Dunhuang art to the world in an open spirit, it aims to contribute artistic strength to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
