“Man's Suit (《新中装》)”, a work of Professor Li Wei in the Department of Textile and Fashion Design of the Tsinghua Academy of Arts & Design, has been exhibited in the British Victoria and Albert Museum and collected as a permanent exhibit.

In this series of Chinese tunic suit works, Prof. Li Wei has broken away from the traditional Chinese tunic suit’s use of stiff materials and also removed the traditional solemnity and sternness of the Chinese tunic suit. Instead, she uses soft silk materials to restore the clothing to daily life and nature, presenting a comfortable, relaxed and casual state. Prof. Li uses technological means to realize color fading, implying changes in time and space.

Prof. Li Wei believes that Chinese designers must have their own original DNA, carry forward the spirit of Chinese culture with a world vision on a higher plane, excavate and inherit the soul of traditional handicrafts, and present the beauty of oriental vision in today’s design.

The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), established in 1852, housing a collection of over 5 million objects, is the world’s leading museum of decorative arts, design and performance.
