Confusing Behavior of People When Stay at Home
2020.11.22

What have you done during COVID-19? Did you try to learn to cook or take online courses? Confusing Behavior of People When They Stay at Home is a series of works by the students of the Department of Information Art & Design of the Academy of Arts & Design using Arduino. It is an exaggerated reflection of the home life of people during the pandemic.

These are the final projects completed by 21 students from Class 710 of the Academy of Arts & Design and CDIE7 of Xinya College for Associated Professor Mi Haipeng's course Interactive Technology (1). The projects were completed by the students in groups when they were at home. The students were trying to reflect people's mentality when they were coping with the changes after the COVID-19 outbreak: from itching to get out of the house but ordered to stay at home, to calmly studying and working from home, to enjoying home life...

Confusing Behavior of People When Stay at Home

Group 1: Taking Online Class at Home

Lu Jiayi, Cui Zhuoyi, and Li Zhuoxun

The instructor "sneak attacks" students during an online class by randomly sharing the screen of a student. We can only see what the student Xiao Ming is doing when his screen is shared: he could be studying, or working out, or completely disappear from the video. His mother may show up in the camera.

Group 2: I Want to Get Out of the House

Wang Weifan, Kang Qiuyan, and Zheng Zhi

Many of us may have already gotten used to staying at home, but there is a free spirit who is not willing to be stuck at home. Finally, he couldn't control his restless soul and tried to go out

We have developed a "roadblock" mode: when the roadblock is placed on the road in front of the protagonist's house, he will rush out and move the roadblock away, offering us a very interesting interactive experience.

Group 3: Balcony Concert

Sun Zhaohan, Wang Jing, and Zhou Wenxin

During the pandemic, balconies have become a place where people can communicate with neighbors. Playing music at home can severely damage relations with neighbors. But now spontaneous balcony concerts are welcomed by many people. We use magnetic, photosensitive, and gravity sensors as triggers to make the servo and LED lights produce stage light. The sound of the drum breaks the silence of the night, attracting more and more people to this special balcony concert.

Group 4: Fishing at Home

Pan Juncheng, Wu Bingyan, and He Yijia

Is home life during the pandemic becoming too boring? Wear your sunglasses. Pick up the fishing rod. Play music. We can experience the joy of fishing without leaving home!

Group 5: Speak the Password

Yang Bolin, Zhang Haoye, and Peng Chengyang

During pandemic, residents are not only required to wear a mask when going out. They also need to pass the security check if they want to leave or enter the residence compound. This project intends to use arduino to show how residents use passwords to get in and out of the compound during the pandemic. The project uses two servos to control the movement of the character and the gate switch. When the character stops at the door, the play module will automatically ask the character to speak the password.

Group 6: Watch the Sea at Home

Xiang Chenzhuo, Niu Yixuan, and Deng Wenjing

Many people are not willing to be stuck at home during the pandemic. Some of them have fantasized about being outdoors and trying to realize their fantasies through various whimsical ways. For example, some people have turned the kitchen island into a dessert station and the bathroom into a beach...

Group 7: Disinfection Robot Dog

Liu Yujia, Li Xiangyang, Li Hanxuan

During the pandemic, many people have developed the habit of spraying alcohol after returning home. We have made a robot dog that can automatically spray disinfectant. When you enter the house, it will bark at you to remind you to disinfect yourself; when you place your hands in front of the dog's eyes, it will automatically spray disinfectant on your hands. When you finish disinfecting, it will give you the thumbs up and make noises to praise you.
