Design is a way to spark new ways of thinking in life, and building an independent system for Chinese design art is key to guiding design toward more democratic, service-oriented, and thoughtful development.
Academic Achievements
His major works include A History of Chinese Arts and Crafts Aesthetics, The Philosophy of Craftsmanship, The Tao of Design: Fundamental Issues of Chinese Design, The Kindness of Design, Design from the Homeland, and Design Meditations. He is the chief curator of the 1st Beijing International Design Triennial, Aesthetic City: Shanghai Design Exhibition, the 1st to 4th China Design Exhibition and Public Art Thematic Exhibitions, the 1st and 2nd Three Paths - Academic Nomination Exhibition of China’s Contemporary Crafts, and the Mexico Contemporary Art Exhibition, among others.
In addition, he is the chief expert of “The Contemporary Value of Traditional Chinese Crafts,” a major project of the National Social Science Fund of China.
