Academic Claims
He advocates for critically reconstructing artistic concepts that have taken shape throughout history and endured to the present day, from the perspectives of art philosophy and the social history of art. In recent years, he has focused particularly on fundamental theoretical issues in art studies, dedicated to building an art theory system oriented toward contemporary Chinese practice. He also promotes the transmission of intangible cultural heritage and the revitalization of regional cultures from the perspective of art studies.
Academic Achievements
He has authored Introduction to Art (China Machine Press, 2024), Introduction to Art (Higher Education Press, 2015), and Contemporary Development of Crafts: Case Studies on the Revitalization of Traditional Crafts (China Light Industry Press, 2019). He has also translated The Transfiguration of the Commonplace: A Philosophy of Art (by Arthur C. Danto, Jiangsu People’s Publishing House, 2012) and 100 New Artists (by Francesca Gavin, Beijing Fine Arts Photography Publishing House, 2014). Since the beginning of the new century, he has published over 80 academic papers in journals such as Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art, Contention in Literature and Art, Social Sciences in Nanjing, Zhejiang Academic Journal, ZHUANGSHI, New Arts, Art, and Art Observation.
He has led multiple research projects, including those funded by the National Social Science Fund of China, the China National Arts Fund, and the Ministry of Education’s Humanities and Social Sciences program. He has also organized and planned a series of large-scale academic events. In 2010, he was selected for the Ministry of Education’s “New Century Excellent Talents Support Program.” In 2012, he was included in Tsinghua University’s “Youth Talent Support Program for Basic Research.” In 2013, he received the Second Prize at the 6th Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (as the second author). In 2018, he was recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as an “Advanced Individual in National Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection.” In 2020, he was honored as an “Outstanding Expert” by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and awarded Tsinghua University’s 17th “Best Teacher and Mentor,” along with the First Prize in the Tsinghua University Excellent Textbook Award.
