Research Directions
·Contemporary Glass Art Practice and Theoretical Research
Academic Philosophy
Glass, as a synthetic material, has been utilized for over 4,000 years. As a traditional craft with practical applications, it has developed unique techniques and aesthetic principles throughout history. Contemporary glass art, however, is undergoing a shift toward artistic, experimental, and aesthetic dimensions. Beginning with traditional glassmaking techniques such as blowing and thermal forming, this research explores the modernist characteristics and theoretical foundations of glass as an artistic medium by integrating the collaborative team approach advocated by the Studio Glass Movement. It emphasizes the equal importance of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary artistic concepts, seeking to merge glass techniques with diverse art forms while preserving its intrinsic artistic language. The work also investigates the profound connections between new materials, techniques, technologies, and the evolution of glass art. Additionally, it focuses on integrating glass design into daily life through industry collaborations to enhance innovative design capabilities and global market competitiveness, ensuring glass art serves contemporary lifestyles.
