Academic Claims
Tradition is the root from which culture and art continue and flourish, endowing us with a unique identity that sets us apart from other nations. Embedded within it are concepts of time and space, perceptions of life, philosophical thought, modes of thinking, emotional experiences, ways of observation, and material techniques - all of which serve as rich sources of nourishment for artistic creation.
In the context of contemporary society, art confronts the realities of existence, cultural positions, conceptual transformations, and material experimentation… It undergoes multidimensional fission, transformation, reconstruction, and transcendence… The construction of sculptural language increasingly reflects the spirit of the times and deep cultural concerns. The study and transformation of tradition should focus on a broad scope, extensive extension, continuous process, and a solid foundation. Each new artwork should be viewed as an opportunity to further expand boundaries and explore new realms. Guided by the interplay between contemporary contexts and traditional spirit, it should foster material experimentation and the exchange of ideas, creating new dimensions in the process. In the creative process, apart from delving into the concept of the work and exploring material expression, it is the sculptor’s responsibility to preserve the unique tension that sets sculpture apart from other art forms.
By deeply exploring traditional Chinese form language, we aim to transform and rejuvenate tradition, making it relevant both for the future and the present. This approach allows tradition to evolve into a living, ever-renewing cultural resource while shaping a sculptural language that embodies distinct Chinese cultural characteristics, values, and positions within the contemporary art context.
