Academic Claims
He emphasizes the academic viewpoint that theoretical discussions should be closely linked to creative practice. He advocates that any art research, regardless of the specific discipline, must simultaneously analyze and reflect on the evolution and development of art in terms of both time and space.
Regarding the study of the forms in ancient Chinese sculpture, it is not only necessary to conduct a thorough and clear analysis of its development, functional attributes, and stylistic types, but more importantly, from the perspective of sculpture as a unique art form, it is essential to explore the different aesthetic concepts, philosophical thoughts, and contents related to religion, sociology, etc., that lie behind its rich and diverse formal representations, both from a macro and micro perspective. In particular, it is crucial to conduct an in-depth and systematic analysis and study from the perspective of form, as the formal issues of sculpture are precisely the means through which it conveys the profound content and ideas mentioned above.
In terms of creative practice, he advocates exploring the possibilities of the relationships between artworks and their environment, artworks and public spaces, and artworks and the public. There should also be a proactive effort to connect sculpture works to the times in terms of content, subject matter, form, and medium. Attention should be given to a range of new aesthetic issues relevant to the present, such as the relationship between “artwork and truth,” “artwork and the world,” and “how the artwork integrates with the world,” encouraging deep reflection and theoretical synthesis in artistic creation.
