Research Interests

Research on Sculpture Forms; Research on Abstract Sculpture Art; Research on the Transformation of Traditional Chinese Sculpture

Academic Claims

1. Teaching should focus on the study of the intrinsic language of sculpture, with an emphasis on the generation of sculpture forms and the application of abstract forms in different environments. Sculpture, as an art form that occupies three-dimensional space, is fundamentally defined by its “shape” and the “state” it presents within that space. Understanding how these forms are generated is a key part of sculpture education and serves as the foundation for the creation of sculpture art. Teaching should focus on the generation of sculpture forms. Undergraduate courses like Abstract Sculpture and graduate courses such as Sculpture Form Research should be offered, allowing students to explore and practice the combination of form elements and materials. This will help them master methods for observing and constructing sculpture forms, with a particular focus on creating and applying abstract sculpture in different environments.

2. Emphasis should be placed on creating works that blend Chinese imagery with modern abstract artistic language, while focusing on the contemporary transformation of traditional Chinese sculpture language. The inheritance and promotion of traditional Chinese culture is an important responsibility we must shoulder. How to integrate traditional Chinese sculpture language with contemporary artistic expression, while preserving the essence of traditional thought, and effectively transform them into resources for today’s artistic creation, is a crucial area of research.
