Teaching Philosophy

1.Foundations: Integrate the principles of imparting wisdom (道) and teaching skills (业), combining liberal arts education with specialized training. Art education should cultivate both professional competence and moral character, drawing from traditional Chinese pedagogy that harmonizes poetry, calligraphy, painting, seal carving, and classical studies. Implement mentor-apprentice "co-learning" (Cong You Lun) methods tailored to individual students, emphasizing scholarly rigor, critical thinking, creativity, and global perspectives.

2.Approach: Foster artist-scholars who blend academic inquiry with artistic practice. Encourage interdisciplinary exploration, problem-solving, and independent research, particularly at the graduate level, to nurture innovators capable of bridging tradition and modernity.

Academic Philosophy
"
Absorb the essence of East and West, synthesize historical and contemporary transformations, and forge a unique artistic voice." Art thrives on evolution rooted in cross-cultural and temporal dialogue. Originality emerges from deep engagement with tradition, bold experimentation, and theoretical-practical synergy. Reject rigid conventions, embrace diverse influences, and leverage China’s artistic heritage—its spiritual ethos, observational methods, and materials—to contribute fresh perspectives to global contemporary art discourse.
