Academic Claims
Contemporary art emphasizes the visual tension and profound meaning of the works, as these two elements are crucial in giving the artwork its ability to make a powerful impact. The significance of deeply exploring the visual dimension of contemporary ink art lies in advancing traditional Chinese painting. It seeks to overcome the rigid constraints of traditional ink painting in concepts, composition, form, visuals, and brushwork, address the weakness of traditional ink painting, where the appreciation is often confined to a close-up view rather than a broader perspective, and enhance the visual tension and cultural elegance of traditional Chinese ink painting, while reflecting the contemporary characteristics of Chinese national art, and establishing the academic position of Chinese ink painting within international contemporary art.
The significance of studying contemporary Chinese ink art lies in the emotional resonance it evokes, not merely through the creation of artistic ambiance and spatial expression, but also through its reflection on history and profound relevance to the present. It blends the depth of tradition, delicate emotions, and a poetic, dreamlike quality, demonstrating a high level of academic value, precision in creativity, emotional intensity, and cultural purity.
Change fuels artistic evolution; without it, art withers. The evolution of an artwork reflects a comprehensive integration of the artist’s creative philosophy, aesthetic awareness, value orientation, artistic intuition, and expressive techniques. Only by continually enriching their cultural knowledge and experiences can artists ensure that their innovation is rooted and substantial, rather than falling into empty formalism.
The value of studying contemporary ink art lies in grounding it in the local context, embracing global perspectives, advancing traditional forms, and engaging with contemporary expressions and innovations. We should integrate the strengths of both Chinese and Western art, staying true to the vivid spirit and freehand style of traditional Chinese ink art, while drawing inspiration from visual elements such as proportions and composition found in Western painting. Emphasizing the expression of cultural spirit and originality, we aim to expand new expressive spaces for contemporary ink art, thereby establishing the important position of national cultural art in the realm of international contemporary art from both artistic and cultural perspectives.
