Academic Philosophy
Lei Lei’s artistic practice revolves around the collection and organization of everyday images. He employs handcrafted collage techniques to create animated visuals, producing films infused with Eastern cultural charm.
Academic Achievements
Since 2009, Lei Lei has consistently engaged in animation creation, completing over 10 short films and two feature films. His creative endeavors also span public space installations, photography, and multimedia design for theatrical stages.
·2014: Recipient of the Cai Guo-Qiang Scholarship, Asian Cultural Council.
·2016: Selected as a young director for the Locarno Summer Academy, Locarno International Film Festival.
·2018–Present: Jury Member, Animated Short and Feature Films Category, Academy Awards (Oscars).
·2019: Feature Film Animal Dialects selected for the Forum section of the Berlin International Film Festival. The film was subsequently screened at the Singapore International Film Festival, Jeonju International Film Festival (South Korea), and FIRST International Film Festival (Xining, China).
·2020: Park Diaries nominated for the Golden Tiger at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The film was also showcased at the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival (South Korea) and the Montreal International Documentary Festival.
·2022: Feature Film The Second and the Third Mother nominated for the Golden Tiger at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, selected for the Bergman Competition at Gothenburg International Film Festival, and featured in the Feature Documentary section at Visions du Réel (Switzerland), among over 30 film festivals globally.
·2023: New Film The River That Runs Through Us selected for the Forum section of the Berlin International Film Festival.
