Academic Philosophy
As a form of plastic art, photography fundamentally differs from painting and sculpture through its unique creative logic and methodology. Each photograph, with its exquisite tonal gradations and profound artistic conception, results from the photographer’s mastery of camera technology, photosensitive materials, technical skills, and artistic vision. In recent decades, the gradual replacement of traditional film-based techniques by digital imaging has ushered in a transformative era for the medium. This evolution highlights photography’s dual identity as both a technologically evolving and artistically enduring practice. Discussions about methodologies—whether reviving classical processes, pursuing the limits of silver-based imaging, or embracing digital innovation—do not alter photography’s essence. Each approach demands rigorous exploration of the medium’s core principles and expressive possibilities.
