Academic Claims
Traditional Chinese ceramic art boasts a rich variety of artistic forms and outstanding achievements. Our research focuses on how to preserve and further develop Chinese ceramic art, and how to make it relevant to contemporary life. The only way to achieve this goal is through design and creation that are adapted to today’s living environment. Contemporary ceramic art creation must be based on the cultural context, material characteristics, and functional purposes of different categories, with the goal of meeting contemporary lifestyles and aesthetic needs. Different material properties give rise to different artistic styles; different functional purposes shape various artistic forms; and different cultural connotations create distinct artistic appeal. Only by uncovering the cultural essence of different types of ceramic art, analyzing the material properties of various ceramics, and understanding their functional purposes can we create works that not only fit contemporary lifestyles and aesthetic needs but also preserve the unique cultural meaning inherent in each ceramic category.
