As a premier platform for showcasing design education achievements in Chinese universities, the “New Talent Award” has been a cornerstone since its inception in 1995, now celebrating its 30th edition. It remains committed to discovering, nurturing, and promoting China’s most promising emerging design talents. Targeting outstanding graduates from fashion design programs nationwide, it stands as one of the most historically significant and professionally recognized fashion design competitions in China. This year’s edition continued to center on trend forecasting proposals, emphasizing a profound dialogue between design expression and the future of fashion. Over three decades, the award has consistently delivered young designers rooted in Eastern cultural heritage yet driven by contemporary creativity to China’s fashion industry, many of whom have since become leading figures in the field.

Title: “Being and Non-being Interact”
Designer: Wang Yunjin (Master’s Candidate)
Advisor: Professor Xiao Wenling
Wang Yunjin’s competition collection, “Being and Non-being Interact,” is grounded in sustainability, drawing technical inspiration from Japanese Yosegi-zaiku woodcraft and integrating the Taoist philosophical concept: “All things under heaven are born of Being, and Being is born of Non-being.” By layering and cutting discarded fabrics into slices, then reassembling them into new textured materials for her graduate collection, the designer transforms “valueless” waste fabrics into “valuable” fashion pieces, giving them new life.

Title: “Order in Disorder”
Designer: Tao Yulin (Master’s Candidate)
Advisor: Professor Wang Yue
Tao Yulin’s collection, “Order in Disorder,” takes inspiration from structural “errors” generated by AI parameter misalignment. By deconstructing and reconstructing atypical structures, such as displaced forms and spatial mirrors in AI-generated imagery, the designer transforms chaotic visuals into functional yet innovative garment architectures, redefining randomness as a new aesthetic order.
