From the Monkey King who rides the clouds to a woman runner glittered in the morning glory, the works of Li Xiangqun from the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, a sculptor of repute, have evoked in the audience collective memories, feelings and anticipation.

From the bronze he has been working with since the beginning of his career, to natural lacquer, a traditional material of Chinese craftsmanship which he recently experimented with in his latest endeavors, Li explores ways to renew people's vision of the world through sculptures and installations, which he has displayed at museums and public venues.

Li's namesake exhibition, now running at the Nanshan Museum through to Feb 16, in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, traces his evolution in sculpture, and his reinventions to keep challenging people's fixed views of themselves, society, and the world.

The display of 42 works, as well as drafts and videos showing his working process, ushers people into his world of art in which time and space, culture and history intertwine to motivate him to create.
