The Tsinghua International Conference on Art & Design Education (ICADE), a pivotal academic event in the global art and design landscape, has successfully convened three editions since its inception in 2021. Over these three years, the conference has brought together presidents and educators from world-leading art and design institutions, experts and scholars in frontier disciplines, as well as internationally renowned artists and designers. Together, they have shared experiences, deliberated on current trends, and envisioned the future, all centered around the theme of art and design education.
The 2024 Tsinghua International Conference on Art & Design Education will be grandly convened at Tsinghua University Milan Institute of Art & Design in Milan, Italy, from November 15th to 16th, 2024!
"Imagination" has always been the driving force behind humanity's exploration of the unknown. Seven hundred years ago, Marco Polo embarked on a lengthy journey fueled by his imagination of the East, seeking new dimensions of world civilization beyond geographical boundaries. Seven hundred years later, AI technology has vastly expanded the boundaries of human cognition and capability, prompting the question: How should we imagine the "new dimensions" beyond these boundaries?
The 2024 Tsinghua International Art and Design Education Conference, hosted by Tsinghua University and organized by the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, the Tsinghua University Milan Institute of Art & Design, and the Sino-Italian Design Innovation Base, will be held in Milan, Italy, from November 15th to November 16th. With the theme of "New Dimensions: Imagination Beyond The Horizon".
The conference will bring together more than 50 international art and design institutions and organizations from 14 countries, over 150 presidents and professors, as well as experts and scholars from various fields, to jointly explore how art and design education in the AI era can better stimulate students' imagination, boldly explore the infinite possibilities of unknown fields, and use the power of art and design to build a new dimension of multidisciplinary cross-innovation in the future.
The conference comprises six interdisciplinary, international, and multidimensional thematic forums. Guests will engage in discussions and exchanges around six topics: The Evolution of Aesthetic Paradigms, The Wonders of Human-machine Synergy, The Formula for Diverse Environments, The Shifting Boundary between Disciplines, Shaping Talents for The Future, and the Constructing An Academic Ecosystem. Collectively, they will explore "new directions, new methods, and new dimensions" for the cultivation of future art and design talents.
Invited guests will share profound insights and valuable experiences on the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities in art and design education, based on the theme of this year's conference, "New Dimensions: Imagination Beyond The Horizons". From talent cultivation, the impact of AI technology, to interdisciplinary integration and innovative design thinking, they will provide fresh perspectives and profound insights from multiple dimensions. With an open mindset, they will jointly promote the development of art and design education and explore its future.
This exhibition brings together outstanding graduation works from the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, teaching achievements from international art and design workshops, and exceptional student works from top art and design institutions worldwide, aiming to present the "new dimensions" of art and design education.
Through six themes – "Form & Function," "Tradition & Innovation," "Sensation & Expression," "Micro & Macro," "Digital & Physical," and "Earth & Space" – the exhibition delves into the boundless possibilities of art and design education across various layers. These works not only showcase the rich fruits of current design education but also provide thought-provoking insights and inspirations on how future art and design will shape human lifestyles and drive societal development.

The conference will be held at Tsinghua University Milan Institute of Art & Design, located at Via Durando 39 in Milan, adjacent to the Bovisa campus of Politecnico di Milano.
Designed by world-renowned architect Alessandro Mendini, the academy integrates technology, innovation, and fashion. It fulfills a multitude of functions, including teaching and research, innovation parks, and exhibition spaces, while possessing comprehensive community facilities and attributes.
