Beijing, March 2, 2024 — The 6th Art and Science International Symposium was successfully held at the China Association for Science and Technology Science Communication Center from March 1st to 2nd, themed "Parallel Time and Space: Experience, Inclusivity, Exploration." The symposium featured a two-day agenda, with 10 keynote speeches on the first day and 20 themed reports through parallel forums on the second day.
On March 1st, Tsinghua University's Academy of Arts & Design Dean and Director of the Tsinghua University Art and Science Research Center, Ma Sai, officially opened the symposium alongside China Association for Science and Technology Science Communication Center's Deputy Director, Meng Lingyun. Distinguished speakers included Peter Childs from Imperial College London, Srini Srinivasan, the former President of the World Design Organization, and Francesco Zurlo from Politecnico di Milano, among others.
The second day featured parallel forums with over 20 prominent scholars and industry experts, discussing topics such as national cultural digitization strategies and the scientific principles and artistic creation of parallel universes.
On March 2nd, the 6th Tsinghua University Wu Guanzhong Art and Science Innovation Awards were announced. Initiated from the proceeds of Wu Guanzhong's artwork "Ten Thousand Miles of the Yangtze River," these awards recognize outstanding contributions to the fusion of art and science. Eight winning entries were selected based on criteria such as originality, artistic merit, scientific relevance, thematic expression, and societal impact.
The award ceremony, hosted by Tsinghua University's School of Arts & Design Party Secretary, Qin Chuan, saw prestigious guests including Peter Childs, Francesco Zurlo, and Meng Lingyun presenting certificates to the winners, concluding the successful symposium.
