Calligraphic works by Han Meilin “A Certain Triumph Over Novel Coronavirus” “Concern Over the Ongoing Outbreak of Disease”

The ongoing outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia has been a concern of all the people in China. Professor Han Meilin from Tsinghua University wrote two calligraphies, to show the artist's concern about the country and people. Han also expressed his good wish for the final triumph over the virus and disease.


A Certain Triumph Over Novel Coronavirus (战疫必胜)


Inscription: Meilin, February 2020. China will defeat the virus and disease.

Seals: "Han Mei Lin Yin," "Da Ji," and "Shou."

Concern Over the Ongoing Outbreak of Disease (民瘼怀忧)


Inscription: May the people enjoy health and tranquility. 

Concern about the outbreak of the disease. 

On 5 February 2020. Meilin at the age of eighty-five.

Seals: "Han Mei Lin Yin," "Da Ji," and "Shou."

Size: 37*138cm

Year: 2020


The term was from Langtaosha: Emotions composed by Cao Guan, a renowned poet of the Song Dynasty. The sentence reads, "I've no desires for myself. I'm only concerned about the hardship the people are suffering." Working on this calligraphy, Han is concerned about the outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia and believes that China and its people will certainly defeat the disease.
