In April 2020, National Arts announced the winners of the Eleventh Global Chinese Gold Star Awards. Professor Bai Ming from the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University won the Eleventh Global Chinese Gold Star Award in the Person of the Year category. Professor Bai was nominated for this award for the sixth time. Other winners in this category are Qiao Zhibing, Ding Yi, Gu Wenda, Feng Boyi, Xue Song, Liu Jianhua, Wang Chunchen, Zheng Hao, and Ren Rong.

The Global Chinese Gold Star Awards Panel conducts a comprehensive evaluation of the activities of well-known Chinese artists, curators, theorists, art communicators and other art practitioners worldwide every year, and presents awards to ten outstanding and most influential figures in the art circles. This annual award has become a weather vane for Chinese contemporary artists.

Professor Bai Ming, Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University
Professor Bai Ming from the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University held a large-scale solo exhibition Vibrations of the Earth at Keramis Centre de la Céramique in Belgium. As a dedicated ceramic artist, he has made outstanding contributions to promoting the development of modern and contemporary ceramic art in China and thus was presented the Gold Star Award in the Person of the Year category.




Professor Bai’s solo exhibition Vibrations of the Earth
Professor Bai Ming's solo exhibition Vibrations of the Earth was co-curated by Ms. Christine Shimizu, famous ceramic scholar and chief heritage curator of the French Ministry of Art, and Ludovic Recchia, director of Keramis Centre de la Céramique. The four-month exhibition is the first solo exhibition held by Keramis Centre de la Céramique for an Asian artist. Such high-standard ceramic art exhibitions are very rare in Belgium or even Europe. The exhibition was included in the Artron Monthly Curator's Influence List (November 2019).



Exhibition
Dozens of magazines, newspapers, websites, and mass media outlets in France, the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, and other European countries published detailed reports on this exhibition, and the famous European publisher Prisme Publishing published a catalogue that illustrates the artworks showcased at the exhibition. Professor Bai is widely recognized by the international art world due to his effort to explore the Chinese ceramic art in the global perspective.
Professor Bai also serves as the director of the Ceramic Art Committee of the Chinese Artists Association. In 2019, he planned four large-scale professional exhibitions as part of the National Art Exhibition Program - Ceramic Art Exhibitions, and wrote the preface for the program. He is also the editor-in-chief of four collections of paintings and the planner of the Young Chinese Ceramic Artists Exhibition. Professor Bai has made outstanding contributions to the development of Chinese ceramic art.
