On Nov. 30th, 2015, Semyon Mikhailovsky, rector of Repin St.Petersburg State Academy Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture gave a lecture in the Academy. The topic is “Academism of St Petersburg—power of tradition, relation of time and era”. Deputy Dean of the Academy Prof. ZENG Chenggang hosted the lecture; director of international cooperation office Dr. ZANG Yingchun, Assistant Director of the Department of Sculpture CHEN Hui, Prof.WANG Tieniu from Department of Painting, together with many students and faculty attended the lecture.

Semyon Mikhailovsky started with a picture of the building of his Academy. It’s a 250-year old square with a circle inside, representing a stable and strong power of tradition in it. Nowadays, Repin St.Petersburg State Academy Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture are working hard to explore: how can we integrate innovation into profound tradition, to keep pace of the times, and also to carry on the essence of the era.

The classroom was packed with enthusiastic audiences. After the lecture, Prof. ZENG Chenggang made brilliant comments.
