First launched in 1981, China Daily has grown to become the nation’s leading English-language newspaper and serves a vital role in telling the world about China. It has nine editions and covers different areas around the world.

As a common visual representation in the new media, the cartoon is a conventional component in Chinese mainland newspapers. China Daily also uses the cartoon as a carrier of information.

Li Min, Song Chen and Ma Xuejing are the major creators of China Daily’s illustrations. All of them graduated from the Academy of Arts and Design at Tsinghua University. Created through their inspiration, illustrations that have been posted in the European and African editions have had a great impact internationally, not only because of the distinct Chinese-style elements, but also due to the combination with an intensely modern palette. Moreover, the academic painting method can be seen in their artwork, thus leading a distinguished trend in the field of illustration.

Theses illustrations have a strongly Chinese aesthetic content, which matches China Daily’s Chinese voice broadcasting to the rest of the world.
