On May 11th 2019, Tsinghua University Art Museum held an international forum, “Learning from the Past and Combining with the Present”.

Eleven authentic experts in the field of metal arts were featured in this forum and offered lectures and speeches based on methods of developing ancient techniques for contemporary usage. Associated Professors of the Tsinghua University Academy of Arts and Design Wang Xiaoxin and Chen Anying hosted the forum.

Professors of Tsinghua University Academy of Arts and Design, Tang Xuxiang and Zhou Shangyi, Tsinghua University alumni, and the Standing Committee member of the Beijing Political Consultative Conference Song Weizu gave thesis speeches based on their own experiences and perspective.

Su Dan, Professor of Tsinghua University Academy of Arts and Design, as well as the director of the forum, regarded this event as a move towards introducing successful ancient techniques. He said “the old metal arts technologies are facing challenges from rising new technologies and the transformation of the social structure, and the old technologies could even be lost. But thanks to our intelligent scholars and their insistence on pursuing aesthetics, the ancient methods for producing metal arts have lasted till now. This is the so-called ‘power of succeeding’.”
