On 5th and 6th January, 2014- Pro Rector of Royal College of Art Naren Barfield, Head of Programme, Global Innovation Design and Innovation Design Engineering, Royal College of Art Miles Pennington, Head of Programme, Global Innovation Design and Innovation Design Engineering, Imperial College London, Peter Childs and staffs from related departments visited the Academy to discuss the collaboration of Global Innovation Design (GID) programme. Dean LU Xiaobo, Deputy Dean ZHANG Gan, Director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office ZANG Yingchun, Director of Teaching Affairs Office DONG Suxue, Deputy Director of Teaching Affairs Office LI Wen and Director of Industrial Design ZHAO Chao attended the conference.
During the conference on the 5th, Professor LU Xiaobo first expressed warmest welcome to the guests and introduced the history, development and the research results of the Academy. Professor Naren and Professor Perter also introduced their colleges respectively. Professor Miles explained the GID programme. Then, all parties went through details and specific items. On the next day, they visited the laboratories, had a short meeting with graduate students and answered students’ questions related to the GID programme. Later, Professor Naren and Professor LU Xiaobo signed the Memorandum of Understanding of GID programme. The signing ceremony was held in C417 of the Academy. All parties expressed their high expectation of the collaboration.
GID is a joint programme founded by Royal College of Art and Imperial College. It is a unique, transnational Master’s design initiative that offers a new global style of learning and unique educational and cultural experiences designed to meet the changing needs. GID Master’s students could get a degree from their home universities and a certification from GID programme. Each partner brings distinct expertise and complementary approaches to design, engineering, technology and business with an emphasis on internationally oriented design and innovation. Graduates from the programme are expected to be central to innovation leadership.
