Co-designed by the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University and Beijing Tsingshang Architectural and Research Institutes Co., Ltd, the China Pavilion of Milan Expo was opened on May 1st, 2015.
Deputy President of Tsinghua University Prof. Xie Weihe, Chairman of CCPIT Mr. JIANG Zengwei, Secretary of the Party committee of AADTHU Li Gongqiang, Deputy Dean of AADTHU Prof. SU Dan (the China Pavilion’s design director) along with other designers and guests from the political and economic circles attended the opening ceremony.
President XI Jinping gave a welcome speech by video. In the video, he said: Welcome to the China Pavilion. The Milan Expo is about agriculture and food. Everyone is related to this significant theme. Far from ancient times till now, the Chinese believe in “eating comes the first”. China is one of the largest developing countries in the world. Ensuring enough food to more than 1.3 billion people is the priority in China’s development. Through our efforts over the years, we have successfully fulfilled this mission, and have laid an important foundation for China’s development.
In the congratulatory telegram, Prof. QIU Yong, President of Tsinghua University praised the design which is fulfilled by the team from Tsinghua, and then wished them happy Worker’s Day.
This China Pavilion is the first pavilion built outside the borders in Expo abroad. Faculty from the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University was in charge of the architecture, landscape, exhibition, interior design, visual guide etc. The China Pavilion is the second largest foreign national pavilion in this EXPO. The theme is “Land of Hope, Food for Life”, interpreting the central idea of “sky, land, people and harmony”.
With two years’ design, and more than one year’s construction, they perfectly interpreted the traditional Chinese culture by innovative design, meaningful storytelling, contemporary design language. This is a good opportunity to show the modern China in new stage, and also an important platform to present the design development of China.
