Instructor: Cui Xiaosheng, associate professor
Time: February 17, 2020 – March 27, 2020
Participants: 2017 undergraduates of the Department of Environmental Art and Design

The course defines design as an "encoding and decoding" process.
Decoding: Decoding spatial fragments or the forms of things through traditional image analysis or daily life observation.
Coding: Re-editing space symbols and codes to form a new space design with the new venue, the consumption relationship, and the "space is the medium" principle in mind.
Conceptual thinking is conducted within the framework of phenomenography, emphasizing meticulous observation and experience, and presentation of observed phenomena and behaviors in an appropriate container.
