From June 22 to 30, 2020, the "New Challenge, New Strategy" International Academic Exchange activities sponsored by the Tsinghua Arts and Design Institute in Milan (ADIM) were held online, including nine dialogue and exchange activities. Centering on topics like "New Challenge, New Strategy", "Narrative Design", "Future Interaction Design", "Design for a More Sustainable World", "Why Images of COVID-19 are So Colorful", "Design in the Post-COVID World", "Beyond Anthropocene: Ecological Wisdom in Art'", and "Information, Interaction, Imagination", teachers and students from institutes of higher education at home and abroad as well as experts and scholars of related fields participated in exchange activities via the ZOOM platform.

Prof. Lu Xiaobo, Dean of Tsinghua University Academy of Arts & Design and Dean of Tsinghua Arts and Design Institute in Milan, Prof. Naren Barfield, Associate Dean and Dean of Royal College of Art, Distinguished Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University, Prof. Silvia Piardi, Director of Design Department of Politecnico di Milano and Distinguished Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University, Prof. Anne Boddington, former Vice President and Honorary Professor of Design Innovation of Kingston University and Dean of the School of Art, and Prof. Zang Yingchun delivered keynote speeches respectively.

On June 23rd, A/Prof. Li Degeng of the Tsinghua Academy of Arts & Design hosted the second international exchange session, "Narrative Design".

Prof. Uwe Brueckner of the Basel School of Design noted that narrative design is the interaction between elements as a whole, and puts forward that theory and practice can be integrated by freely combining and matching several elements such as object, space, audience and sequence. Wang Hui, Associate and Host Architect of Urban Practice Architecture Office, explained how to use the design of site, space and scene to convey empathy as an architect. A/Prof. Zhou Zishu of the Central Academy of Fine Arts explained how to complete the meaning construction through design and transform the systematic spatial imagination into a value discourse system understandable by the public with the practical case of "sweet potato community".
