The Admissions Office of Tsinghua University released a new version of undergraduate admission letter with a 3D paper model of the Second Gate of Tsinghua University inside on June 30, 2018. The innovative design immediately drew wide attention on the Internet. It also swept over WeChat moments and became one of the most searched hashtags.
The admission letter is designed by Guan Yulei, who graduated from the Department of Visual Communication of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University with a master’s degree in 2018. It is the first time that a 3D paper model is used in the admission letter. The idea is perfected based on Guan Yulei’s graduate project. Focusing on classic architecture elements of Tsinghua University, such as the Tsinghua College, the Grand Auditorium, and the Second Gate, he designed 3D greeting cards, four visit routes and maps of the campus, hand-drawn phone cases, masking tapes, notebook gift boxes, metal badges featuring Tsinghua University etc. for his project.
