Research Area:

Figure modeling language study; Application of pastel materials

Academic Viewpoint:

Figure modeling is a test of the comprehensive ability of the painter. It requires the painter to coordinate the object image, medium and expression habit. Figure modeling is not only a description of the object image, but also an artistic expression of the painting material and a presentation and creation of scenes and things. Through modeling language research, the aim is to deepen the basic modeling ability, explore possible means of expression, and deconstruct the graphic language and appreciation pattern in painting.

As a relatively soft sketching material, pastel painting materials help grasp the instant shape of an object, strengthen the understanding of the "shape" of the object, and refine the "line" in the painting; the "lightening" technique in pastels helps get rid of the expression habit from light to dark, and enhance the understanding of the volume of things; by exploring of the use of dry and oily pastel painting materials, one enriches his/her understanding about material textures.
