Basic theory and application of information art design
Calculation-centered social development will surely facilitate fundamental changes in design discipline, and non-physical information will become the thing-in-itself of design, so it is necessary to build new design theory, design thinking, design methods and procedures, as well as aesthetic design paradigm and design evaluation criteria, so as to form a new design discipline system that suits the non-physical social development trend. Meanwhile, due to the complexity of the design itself and its clients, the multi-disciplinary integration of design has become a necessary requirement. Guided by the human-centered design idea and the thinking of cross-disciplinary development, on the high-level international art and design platform, we have carried out extensive theoretical studies and practical explorations in information interaction design, digital entertainment design, mobile services design and new media art design, so as to inspire people's critical thinking on the existing state and development trend of human society with human culture admeasurements and encourage people to examine, with the artistic and aesthetic way of thinking, the digital world which mankind depends on for survival, thus arousing their attention for the issues of human nature - the natural, sensual, aesthetic and emotional aspects, and developing the sustainable design from the perspective of information ecology.
Professor Lu Xiaobo has made remarkable achievements in the theoretical research, artistic creation, and design practice in the related field of information art design. He has published dozens of academic papers in professional core academic journals like Decoration, Literary and Art Studies, Art Observation and Technology Review, and edited many books like Digital Graphic Interface Design. He has made keynote speeches at Beijing International New Media Arts Exhibition & Forum, Asia (Japan) International Design Conference, International Arts and Sciences Exhibition & Forum, International Interaction Design Forum and China Human-Computer Interaction Forum, etc. His art design works have been selected for National Art Exhibition for many times and won awards like Gold Medal of China Industrial Design Award and Top Prize of International Arts and Sciences Exhibition, etc. He has presided over or participated in many vertical or horizontal research projects, including National Philosophy and Social Sciences Base Project of "985" Arts and Sciences, Science of Art Project of National Social Sciences Fund, Chinese Railway Passenger Dedicated Line Information System Design, and design project of overall creative plan for Hunan Pavilion of World Expo 2010 Shanghai. Department of Information Art Design and Arts and Science Research Center of Tsinghua University, which Professor Lu Xiaobo is in charge of, have close industry, teaching and research cooperation with many famous research institutions and enterprises including Microsoft, Nokia, IBM, Procter & Gamble, Lenovo, Midea, etc.
1. Design, Value and Experience
The value of design is to create perfect user experience, which includes not only the basic user experience, but also the service experience, and the entire brand experience in this process. Design can create value, but besides economic value, designers should be more concerned about the pursuit of individual, social and environmental sustainable ecological value. On the basis of reviewing the evolution of human values, this course analyzes the features of science, technology, and culture in modern society, explores the theory of value from different angles and its related case studies. The course focuses on relevant basic theoretical knowledge of the experience design and conducts a systematic analysis on design, value and experience from a broad perspective.
2. Information Art and Design Trends
With a large number of video data and literature review, the course describes the basic theory, development and cutting-edge trends of information art design, including related theoretical basis for information art and design, design methods and procedures, and typical case analysis. From a cross-disciplinary perspective, it uses specific creative design practices to explore the understanding of some basic problems of human society under a wide disciplinary background, thus forming the understanding of macro-level disciplinary trend.
