Research Interests:
Application of basic space theory and design methods.
Academic Proposition:
Space is the most fundamental and purest concept in environment & art design and is the most basic professional subject related to landscape, architecture and interior design. Separating space as a relatively independent object for basic research will obscure the disciplinary and industrial boundaries that were rigidified long time ago. After the 19th century when space was treated as an independent disciplinary concept to be discussed and applied, and many theoretical systems and categories including enclosure, empathy, physical extension, space production, place and location, spatial language and semiotics, morphology, and space syntax theory have been invented in succession. Based on analysis and research on existing spatial theories, I combined the teaching and design practices together, started from the spatial structure, and summed up a series of methods for analysis, evaluation and design such as language interpretation of the space, spatial scene sensing icons[h2] , and field analysis of spatial view. In this way, we can improve the theoretical system of environment & art design. My research interests include 1) methods for building space and formation structure; 2) space transformation and semantic interpretation of space; 3) strategies for space analysis, evaluation and design.
