I. Project Background
Having undergone millennia of accumulation, ceramic art is now radiating a new vitality amidst the tide of technological advancement. This exhibition, themed "Ceramic Future: Techno-Aesthetic Reinterpretation of Ceramics," focuses on three major dimensions: morphological reconstruction, technological empowerment, and sustainable practices. It aims to explore the extension of ceramic art's forms and values, injecting traditional craftsmanship with technological dynamism and the spirit of our times.
Ceramics, as a significant symbol of Chinese civilization, represent an artistic treasure that carries the spiritual essence of the nation's culture. The Academy of Arts & Design at Tsinghua University, leveraging its interdisciplinary strengths and gathering talent from various fields, has taken the initiative to plan and present this exhibition with the mission of promoting cultural inheritance and innovation. By implementing the development concept of "new quality productive forces," the exhibition endeavors to build a dialogue platform between art and technology, actively exploring digital innovation pathways for ceramic art. It seeks to provide practical models for the contemporary transformation of traditional crafts, effectively contributing to the quality improvement, upgrading, and innovative development of the cultural industry.
This exhibition closely aligns with Beijing's strategic deployment to "promote the deep integration of the cultural industry and technological innovation." By showcasing new forms, technologies, and artworks that combine ceramic art and technology, it will highlight Beijing's exemplary role as a national cultural center and a hub of technological innovation. The exhibition will carefully select 80-100 pieces (sets) of contemporary ceramic artworks from around the globe, constructing a platform for multicultural dialogue. This initiative aims to promote the interaction and mutual learning between traditional Chinese culture and world civilizations, demonstrating the global value and cultural influence of Chinese ceramic art.
II. Call for Participants
Global artists, technologists, designers, inheritors of ceramic craftsmanship, interdisciplinary creators, and art institutions are invited to participate.
III. Categories of Artwork Submission
(I) Morphological Innovation and Traditional Reconstruction
Submitted works should break through the limitations of traditional ceramic forms, showcasing abstract, bionic, or functional pieces that embody future concepts through contemporary ceramic art principles. Simultaneously, submissions that utilize technological means to reinterpret traditional patterns or techniques are strongly encouraged.
(II) Revolution in Artistic Methodology
Submitted works should explore how technological tools are transforming the creative process, such as algorithmic generation of designs and virtual reality sculpting. Case studies involving interdisciplinary collaboration, for example, co-creations by material scientists and ceramic artists, that demonstrate the deep integration of technology and art are also welcome.
(III) Fusion Experiments of Technology and Ceramics
Submitted works should integrate cutting-edge technologies like 3D printing, digital modeling, artificial intelligence, and smart materials to explore interactive and dynamic artistic expressions in ceramic creation. Examples include the combination of sound and light installations, digital imagery, and ceramics, showcasing the novel aspects of ceramic art under the influence of technology.
(IV) Sustainable Artistic Practices
Submitted works should incorporate the application of environmentally friendly materials and energy-saving technologies, discussing the sustainable design of the ceramic lifecycle, encompassing the entire process from creation and usage to recycling. Innovative practices in environmental protection and energy conservation should be evident.
IV. Artwork Requirements
Originality and Innovation: All submitted works must be original creations, strictly prohibiting plagiarism or imitation. The unique expression of the artist's creative concept must be ensured. Furthermore, the works should demonstrate innovation in at least one of the following aspects: form, artistic concept, experimental fusion of technology and ceramics, or sustainable artistic practice.
Exhibitability: Submitted works must possess excellent exhibitability, suitable for presentation within an exhibition space. For large-scale installation artworks, creators are required to provide detailed technical implementation plans to ensure the smooth installation, display, and subsequent dismantling of the work.
